The high-speed roll-up door that combines agility and fire protection

In retail, logistics centres, and industrial environments where the flow of people, products, and machinery can be intense, access must be fast, durable, and offer safety guarantees for both personnel and products. In addition, access must often help to sectorise different spaces, for example, in interior areas of industries or to separate the warehouse area from the retail location in a supermarket. In such environments, the EI120 high-speed roll-up door with fire curtain from Ferroflex offers a solution both for such sectoring and for fire protection.

This innovative model consists of two independent roller canvases integrated into a single head but with separate drive mechanisms, combining the operational speed of a high-speed roll-up door with the fire resistance of an EI120 certified fire-resistant curtain.

The dual-function high-speed roll-up door

In normal operation, the fire-resistant curtain remains raised, and the other acts as a heavy-duty, self-repairing door, ideal for areas with constant traffic of machinery and personnel. In other words, in such circumstances it operates with all the advantages of a high-speed door: speed of opening and closing for uninterrupted flow, sectorisation capability, maintenance of environmental conditions, contribution to energy efficiency, and optimisation of usable space with reduced dimensions.

One of the strong points of this canvas for regular use, especially in supermarkets and other spaces with heavy traffic of loads and vehicles, is its ability to self-repair. In the event of an accidental impact, the canvas slides out of the guides and is automatically repositioned when the door is raised, thanks to a lateral rail system. This prevents breakages and breakdowns, minimises disruption to daily operations, and reduces maintenance costs.

On the other hand, in the event of a fire alarm activation, the fire curtain automatically deploys, guaranteeing effective compartmentation for 120 minutes. The design and materials of the fire curtain have a double property, which is class EI: integrity (E) and thermal insulation (I). Integrity refers to the ability of the fabric to contain flames, smoke, and gases, preventing the spread of fire to adjacent spaces. Thermal insulation, on the other hand, blocks the transmission of heat to other areas, preventing objects in those areas from combusting. In this way, the roll-up door guarantees its fire protection function for a minimum time of 120 minutes, which gives it an EI120 classification.

In addition to all this, Ferroflex offers a wide range of customisation options and complementary equipment to adapt the canvas of this door to the needs of each environment (the fire curtain cannot be customised). Its size can be adjusted within a certain range, the curtain can be screen-printed with logos or visual elements that reinforce operability, and the aluminium frame can be lacquered in a wide range of colours. Windows of different shapes and sizes can also be incorporated to facilitate visibility or the passage of light. In addition, the system can be completed with optional accessories such as a double-height stop selector, auxiliary pushbutton panels, ceiling handles, remote controls, external pushbuttons, or presence and movement sensors.
