Safety and hygiene with the installation of 128 high-speed doors for laboratories and clean rooms

Laboratories in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors require access points that ensure maximum hygiene, smooth staff movement and strict control of particles and pressure. In these environments, each door is part of the system that maintains the safety and stability of the rooms. Based on these requirements, Ferroflex has carried out a large-scale project in Portugal, installing 128 high-speed doors for laboratories and clean rooms.

Managing a project that involves a large number of doors in a highly demanding environment, such as a facility with multiple laboratories, presents several technical challenges. Ferroflex has addressed these challenges by ensuring maximum safety, hygiene and operational efficiency. In these spaces, maintaining airtightness and controlled conditions is essential to guarantee product quality. Therefore, our doors are certified as Class 5 air permeability according to UNE-EN 12426:2000, thanks to their design that prevents leaks between spaces and cross-contamination.

This model has been designed to reduce pressure losses in various spaces, which is crucial in facilities where each room requires a specific balance to preserve its integrity and prevent the passage of particles between areas. To achieve this, the design and opening and closing speeds of this high-speed door allow pressure differences of up to 50 Pascals to be maintained without compromising operability or safety, ensuring that air flows remain stable even in intensive-use scenarios.

One significant challenge in a project of this scale is complying with safety regulations, which require very specific materials, finishes and validation processes. Ferroflex doors fulfill these requirements thanks to their hygienic design, smooth and easy-to-clean surfaces, insulation capacity and customisation options. For example, some high-speed doors are equipped with windows that facilitate visibility on both sides of the curtain.

Ferroflex demonstrates its expertise in providing access solutions for critical environments through projects like this one. By combining advanced technology with a high-speed door designed specifically for laboratories, and comprehensive support throughout the entire project, from planning and production to installation and setting in motion, enables us to manage complex projects tailored to the unique needs of each space.

Moreover, the entire production process, including the paint tunnel, is carried out in-house, allowing us to offer fast and efficient response times.

In-house manufacturing to accelerate delivery times and ensure quality

Having our own factory at our facilities in Polinyà (Barcelona) enables us to manage the entire process internally, from engineering and production to pre-assembly and quality control. This ensures:

●    Efficiency in delivery times.

●    Greater control over the product, ensuring reliability for every unit installed.

●    Factory pre-configuration using our Plug & Play technology, which significantly reduces on-site installation times - a crucial factor in environments where minimising downtime is essential.

Due to this industrial capacity, the project was completed without compromising laboratory activity and while maintaining the high levels of sterility and environmental control required by this type of facility.
